Featured Garment: Momo Top

This week we’re featuring the Momo Top, one of our not-so-secret favourites. Momo is Japanese for peach, and we were thinking *peaches* because of the sneaky cleavage factor. The neckline is mostly modest, but there’s the option to show a little decolletage should the need arise ;)

Shown in Midnight merino (Katharine sleeve), Dianthus print rayon (short sleeve) and Indigo linen jersey (short Sweetheart sleeve)

The Momo is a flexible top. We offer it in all fabrics, and a lot can be achieved with the right fabric and sleeve combination. Shown here in Midnight merino with a Katharine sleeve, in Dianthus print rayon with a short sleeve, and in Indigo linen jersey with a short Sweetheart sleeve. It’s fair to say that the gathered shawl neckline always slides it to the dressy end of the spectrum – even in french terry, it’s more of a fancy sweatshirt look. :)

We thought this might be a good opportunity to talk about the fit of our basic tops. Different families of tops have different amounts of ease through the body, as well as different heights and snugness of armholes. So, when you send us your measurements, we do the math.

The Seamless/Siren top series is double layer and cut with very little ease. The bust and waist are cut slightly smaller than your body measurements, and the upper hip is cut the same as your body measurements. This fit is very smoothing and ideal for wearing under other garments, so it is also the cut used for our double layered shells.

Our original top patterns are cut to your body measurements at the bust and waist, while giving some ease over the upper hip. Tops in this series are the PatriciaDollhouseSweetheart, and Romantic tops.

The Momo top is cut with a touch of ease at the bust, and more ease through the waist and upper hip. If you enjoy the fit of the Momo, you may find that the Lakehouse, Drama ClassTomoeFelicity, or Calla are good options for you. We only apply this type of fit to single layer tops, as a double layer of fabric doesn’t drape well.

If you have a top from us that you particularly love, and you want your next top to fit just like it, it’s best to check in with us before ordering. If we can apply the same amount of ease to your new top, we will.
